According to official data from the population census in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1991, 126 Christian Serbs lived in the settlement of Vrelo.
According to official data from the population census in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2013, no Christian Serbs were recorded in the settlement of Vrelo.
In the 2013 census, the number of Bosniak Muslims in the settlement of Vrelo increased compared to the 1991 census.
In the 1991 census, 126 Muslims were recorded in Vrelo, while in the 2013 census, 216 persons declared themselves as Muslims by religion.
In 1992, the Christian Serbian population that lived in the settlement of Vrelo was expelled from their houses, the Christian houses were all set on fire and demolished.
Restoration: Efforts to clean and restore the church intensified in 2024 and 2025 at the initiative of people originating from this area. The goal is to make the building usable again for memorial services (parastoses) and for celebrating the church’s patron saint day.
